Whether it be short-term or long-term, goal-setting is a crucial component when it comes to sports performance, effective communication, and efficient execution. In fact, a study by Chelladurai (2007) states that: “coaches tended to behave consistent with their own goals and instrumentalities, and this underscores the need to assess coaches’ goals in any attempts of training and development of coaches. In fact, such training was found to have positive impacts on coaches and players”.
Simply put, knowing which direction to head towards will allow the coaches to steer the team in the right direction with every training session and communication opportunities.
That being said, how would you, as coaches, implement goal-setting into your coaching routines (for both yourselves and your athletes) for better performance and clearer communication?
